Vice Magazine—Issue #8

As the Design Manager at Vice Media Latin America, I had the opportunity to spearhead and contribute to several recent editions of the magazine in its digital format. Our latest issue, titled "ODIO" (HATE), delved into the persistent dynamics of hatred in Latin America, examining how these dynamics, whether rooted internally or influenced externally, continue to impact and shape our daily lives within the region.

Crafting this particular issue involved developing a distinct visual identity centered around a unique alphabet, with each letter constructing an essay focused on a term associated with hate in Latin America. Alongside this, we produced a documentary video and an extensive array of materials designed for social media and the website.

The animation engine for the visual identity was created using code in Processing. It operated by employing letters from the alphabet and various definitions that alternated and appeared randomly.

This marked the first instance where Vice Media utilized creative coding to generate the visual identity for any of its editions.
